How early do we need to arrive?
We recommend that participants arrive as early as possible if you did not already register or pick up your race packet. The official 5K starts at 8:00am.

What time does the 5K race start?
The official 5K race begins at 8:00am. The Stroller Brigade will start at 8:05am.  

What time does the race finish?
The course roads will reopen to drivers at 9:30am. However, most participants are finished before that.   

Can I bring a stroller?
Yes, but due to safety concerns, strollers are not allowed to line up alongside runners. Please participate in the Stroller Brigade, which will begin immediately after the official 5K, at 8:05am.

Can we bring a pet?
Yes, but due to safety concerns, pets are not allowed to line up alongside runners. Please remain in the very back of the pack for your own safety, and remain to the right hand side of the course as you run or walk.

What is the registration deadline?
There is no registration deadline.

Why are there additional fees added to the registration fees?
Bright Beginnings does its best to keep the costs associated with the 5K as low as possible, so that the funds raised from the event can contribute directly to the critical education, therapeutic, and family services that it provides to homeless children and families in Washington, DC. The additional fees are the costs associated with the registration process, and are kept as low as possible.

Can I register for more than one person?
Yes. If registering a group of individuals that are not participating on a team, please register them and yourself all at once.

Is there a family discount?
No, there is no family discount.

Do I need to pay for my baby?
Yes. Any participant, regardless of age, must be registered for the race. Cheering from the sidelines is free of charge and encouraged!

Is there a place to keep our bags?
Yes. There will be a bag check on at the Start/Finish area. Please click here for more information.

Is the course certified?
Yes. The course is USATF course DC05005JS.  

What is the terrain of the race course like?
The course is flat and entirely paved. 

Can children participate in the race?
Yes. We are a family friendly event and encourage child and family participation! Participants of any age can participate in the official 5k race as long as they are registered.

Where and when are the packet pickups?
We will have more information when it's available.

What do I need to pick up my race packet?
Please bring a photo ID with you.  

What do I need for the day of the race?
Please bring a photo ID with you. We understand that children rarely have photo IDs, so please make sure they are accompanied by an adult with a photo ID. 

Is the race handicap accessible?
Yes. We encourage all who would like to participate to come! 

I left something at the event. Who can I call about lost and found?
The Bright Beginnings 5K event staff will gather all remaining lost and found items and take them back to Bright Beginnings. Please contact the Bright Beginnings office at (202) 842-9090 to retrieve your belongings. 

When will the race results be posted?
The race results will be posted within a few hours after the race. We will post the link when it's available.

Do you need volunteers?
Thank you for your interest in volunteering. However, our event is fully staffed by members of the Junior League of Washington. The Junior League of Washington ( is a nonprofit organization of more than 2,300 women who annually donate thousands of dollars and volunteer hours to the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable, committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. The Junior League of Washington focuses its financial and volunteer resources on the issues of literacy and works with a diverse group of communiy partners.
